This year’s Oscars were barely a blip on my radar, despite seeing a tonne of movies in the last year. Genre movies are ghettoised by the Academy, so I didn’t see most of the winners, and certainly didn’t watch the awards ceremony itself. I was glad to see Inception pick up a bunch of awards, but they were the consolation prizes, given to good movies that aren’t artsy enough to win top honours. Unsurprisingly, Toy Story 3 grabbed the animation award – Pixar did a typically great job there.
The King’s Speech doesn’t sound like the kind of content that I’d be interested in (though I’d probably enjoy the movie if I were forced to watch it). The Black Swan sounds interesting, but is no doubt a crazy-on-drugs kind of highly wrought experience.
