This movie was sickening, yes literally. They invented the Steadicam for a reason, but Battle: Los Angeles goes the way of the Bourne series and obscures what should be a fun sci-fi action military romp with nausea inducing trappings of “realism”.
The storyline is fairly basic: aliens invade earth, and a group of US Marines engage an unknown enemy. The main characters are all soldiers, replete with nicknames, banter, and patriotism, and while the characters aren’t deep and their arcs predictable, they were likeable. Michelle Rodriguez was a pleasant surprise – she seems to like these military-action-sci-fi movies, and I definitely like her.
I was surprised by the humanoid nature of the alien enemy; this allowed more “realistic” combat – at least combat that’s closer to the modern experience.
