Rybka Disqualified for Plagiarism

Rybka, one of the strongest engines in existence, has been disqualified for plagiarising open source engines Fruit and Crafty by the International Computer Games Association. The ICGA didn’t actually see the source code directly but had its 34-person panel reverse engineer the system.

I’m not a fan of the rise of game-dominating Chess engines in general, but I may as well throw my own two cents in: I presume that Rybka’s creator had many chances to present the source code and exonerate himself, and the ICGA is capable of performing a technological investigation, so I don’t have much sympathy.
