I haven’t seen a Wes Anderson movie before, but the description of Moonrise Kingdom hit all my favourite themes. The movie is set on a fictitious US island in the 60s, where a Scout gathering is being held, and concerns the adolescent romance of two troubled but well-meaning 12-year-olds who run away into the wilderness together. The scenery is beautiful, and I found the survival tips and the portrayal of the Scout movement quaintly charming. The movie is gentle and good-natured, and mildly comedic (Edward Norton is great as a hapless Scoutmaster) despite some dark-ish content.
“Does it bother you?”
“I like it.”
