Die Hard

Apparently this is the ultimate Christmas movie.

It was pretty interesting seeing Bruce Willis’s breakthrough action role (prior to this he was some sort of drama dude), and his character is so much more interesting as a young, non-bald, non-invincible everyman cop caught in the wrong place at the wrong time. Nowadays he launches cars at helicopters and has no emotions.

The 80s setting was interesting: a high-tech building, big hair, Japanese and German economic ascendancy, and physical bearer bonds.

There are no fights against fighter planes, but I found the action much more intelligent, and more desperate than more recent films in the franchise (heck, in the genre).
